Firefighters from the Republic of Moldova deployed to Greece continue to engage in extinguishing forest fires that are severely affecting several regions of the country. Greek authorities have reported 114 new fires in the last 48 hours.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), in the last three days, 22 Moldovan firefighters have worked together with over 150 Greek firefighters to extinguish a large-scale fire in Chelidoni region, southwest Greece. The mission, which lasted over 48 hours, involved ground teams and aerial resources and took place continuously, including at night.

Moldovan firefighters deployed three special vehicles, including a high-capacity tanker (10,000 liters), ensuring the control and extinguishment of hotspots, protection of threatened homes, water supply for local vehicles, and the creation of protection lines to prevent the fire spread.

Since the start of the pre-positioning mission in Greece, Moldovan firefighters have participated in nine support and extinguishment interventions of forest fires, under the coordination of Greek authorities.

According to IGSU data, on 15 July -15 August, a team of 44 Moldovan firefighters, divided into two shifts, participates in European Union's civil protection activities alongside teams from Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Romania and Bulgaria.
