Moldovan cinema man gets six prizes at international film festivals in 2018
Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - Films made by film director Dumitru Grosei have got six prizes at various international film festivals in 2018. A film titled Călărași – un ținut la poarta raiului (Calarasi – a Region at the Heaven’s Door) was awarded four of these prizes.
The movies by the same film director took one prize each: Cadoul (The Present) (at a festival in India) and Ecouri (Echos) (at Alternative Film Festival from Toronto, Canada).
The film Calarasi – a Region at the Heaven’s Door was awarded the prize for the best documentary on the subject of history and conservation of heritage at the Amorgos Tourism Film Festival, held in the Amorgos island in Greece. In 2018, this film took another three prizes: the prize for the best film on the subject of Ethno-ecology (nature and native people) at the International Ecological Film Festival To Save and Preserve from Russia, the Grant Prize For the Best Ethno-graphic Film at the International Festival of Ethnographic Film from Zlatna, Alba county, Romania, and the best documentary at the Constanta International Film Festival, within the International Festival of Independent Theatre.
According to specialists in the cinematography sector, Dumitru Grosei is the most selected Moldovan film director at international film festivals in 2018. Last year, five of his films and a draft of a full-length film underway gathered 50 official selections in 23 countries.
Dumitru Grosei was born in 1969, in the Marinici village, central Nisporeni district. In 1992-94, he studied at the Law Faculty of the Iasi University (Romania) and in 1999 he graduated from the Faculty of Film Direction at the National University of Theatre and Cinematography from Bucharest. In 1995, he was secondary director of the French film director Bertrand Tavernier at the film Capitaine Conan. Presently, Dumitru Grosei lives in Chisinau and is president and founder of the Association of Independent Cinema Men from Moldova. In 2016-2017, he held the office of director of the National Film Archive from Moldova. Starting from 2015, he has been director of the annual cinematographic event, Days of Romanian Film in Chisinau.
