National Culture Day // PM says Moldovans must ensure that cultural values which unite citizens are passed on to children

The National Culture Day is an opportunity to discuss the importance of cultural heritage, to promote the country’s cultural figures and to ensure that the cultural values that unite citizens are passed on to their children. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has made statements to this effect, on the occasion of marking the National Culture Day.

According to the official, “culture has saved us in difficult moments of our history, it has been a shield against authoritarianism and against attempts to destroy our freedom and national identity.”

Alexandru Munteanu urged citizens to take part in cultural events and to discover the national cultural heritage.

“Let us go to the theatre, to the opera, to concerts, let us read the books of our authors, watch our films, take part in cultural events as a daily exercise, as a form of continuous development. Happy National Culture Day to all people of culture!”, said Alexandru Munteanu.

Each year, on January 15, Moldova celebrates the National Culture Day, an occasion to honor cultural heritage and the birthday of poet Mihai Eminescu, a symbol of Romanian literature and national identity.

The National Culture Day was established by a decision of parliament in April 2012 and aims to promote national culture, authentic values and the recognition of the merits of personalities in the field.

The agenda of events organized on the occasion of the National Culture Day is available on the website of the Culture Ministry.
