Moldovan government to continue backing initiatives for turning to account economic potential of countries from region
Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in an ordinary meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), held in online format, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The heads of government present at the summit exchanged information and opinions on the evolution of the pandemic which hit the entire world, as well as about the economic and social effects triggered by the restrictions imposed, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In his speech, the PM stressed that Moldova remained open for developing the cooperation with the CIS member states, as Moldova speaks out for boosting and diversifying the commercial and economic cooperation between the Commonwealth states and full enforcement of the opportunities provided by the CIS free trade area. At the same time, the Moldovan government will continue backing diverse initiatives and projects in fields of interest, especially the ones which imply the turning to good account of the economic potential of the countries from the region, meant to contribute to the continuous modernization process.
„In the current realities, the economic progress is possible only due to the innovating technologies. The sustainable development of the CIS countries needs increased attention to the innovation dimension, which should be based on the national advantages of each country and turning to account of the present potential in this respect,’’ the prime minister said.
PM Chicu stressed that Moldova invested a lot in the progress of the IT industry and services’ digitalization. Or, the pandemic showed the need to develop this sector.
„Moldova pays special attention to the development of the digital economy and IT and Communication (TIC) sector, due to their effects in ensuring the modernization and structural transformations of the economy. ITC has become one of the sectors with the quickest growth of the national economy, being leader in development in the last years. This vector is supported by the successful implementation of the national strategy for the information society’s development Digital Moldova 2020 and the sectoral action plan, Development of the information technology industry and ecosystem of digital innovation for 2018-2023. The economy’s modernization through the enforcement of advanced technologies in the production processes, use of new technical solutions in the development of commercial enterprises and new technologies represent important elements of an innovating approach in the economic development, both in the country and all over the world,’’ the prime minister added.
The PM also thanked the CIS mission of observers, who monitored the 1 November presidential elections in Moldova.
