Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated in the launch of the Women MPs Platform, made up in Moldova’s parliament. The initiative brings together women representatives of the parliament’s majority and opposition and its goal is to identify solutions to problems of women, children and disadvantaged categories of Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
In her speech, President Maia Sandu said that Moldova had registered good results as regards the political representation of women and the country’s experience inspired other states as well. ‘’Nevertheless, besides the presence of women in leadership offices, the gender equality means also equal educational, social and economic opportunities for men and women, equal chances of self-fulfillment in career and life. One of the serious problems from our country, which we should settle, is the one of violence against women and children,’’ the head of state said at the event on the inauguration of the Women MPs Platform.
According to the president, in Moldova, there are instruments to combat the violence; yet, it is necessary for us to efficiently enforce them. ‘’Let us work together, in order to discourage and combat these social defects, through awareness and prevention, through education and changing the social traditions, as well as through the creation of economic opportunities, which will allow our women to be financially independent and decides their lives by themselves,’’ Maia Sandu stressed. In the context, the head of state also said that more legislative initiatives to this end had been already promoted in the government and parliament. She emphasized that the biggest changes were to start and that we should everybody make them together.
