Moldovan PM has phone conversation with EU diplomacy head
Chisinau, 8 January /MOLDPRES/ - The humanitarian crisis triggered by Russia in the Transnistrian region must stop. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has made statements to this effect during a phone conversation with the European diplomacy head, Kaja Kallas.
„I reaffirmed that, despite the Kremlin’s energy blackmail, we cover the energy needs of Moldova and protect our citizens. The humanitarian crisis triggered by Russia in the Transnistrian region must stop,’’ Dorin Recean said.
For her part, the EU diplomacy head, Kaja Kallas, stressed that, due to the European Union’s support, Moldova stayed resistant and well-connected to the European energy networks.
„Russia continues to use the gas as weapon and Moldova is again target of a hybrid war. Due to the European Union’s support, Moldova stays resistant and well-connected to the European energy networks. During the phone call with PM Dorin Recean, I reaffirmed our firm solidarity with Moldova,’’ Kaja Kallas said.
In the context, Moldovan government’s representatives appreciated the fact that ‘’the European Union is in solidarity with the Moldovan authorities and will support our people to overcome the consequences of the Russian energy blackmail.’’
The Russian giant Gazprom suspended the delivery of natural gas to Moldova beginning with 1 January 2025. Given a potential humanitarian crisis in the Transnistrian region because of the non-observance by Russia of the contract on the supply of natural gas to the consumers from the left bank of Dniester, Moldova has been in an emergency state beginning with 16 December 2024.
