Criminal file on suspended Moldovan Prosecutor General sent to court
Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - The prosecutor nominated by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), Victor Furtuna, today informed about the sending to court of the criminal file on the charging of the suspended Prosecutor General.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), the suspended Prosecutor General, Alexandr Stoianoglo, is charged with the following offences: abuse of power, committed in the interest of a criminal organization, manifested through the release from prison of convict Veaceslav Platon and illegal renunciation to accusation, in the wake of which a damage worth 869,224,839.76 lei was inflicted to the national public budget; passive corruption, manifested through the reception and acceptance of assets and advantages amounting to 63,233 032.7 lei (about 3,347,327.91 euros) in any form which he did not deserve on behalf of Veaceslav Platon; forgery in statements, characterized by deliberate non-inclusion in the declaration of assets and personal interests of the fact that his wife, starting from 5 January 2021, has been one of the real beneficiaries of a company registered in Ukraine.
The criminal file was sent to court also against two prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS), who are charged with the having acted by common consent with the suspended Prosecutor General for the release from prison of convict Veaceslav Platon and illegal renunciation to accusation.
Also, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, carries out, in continuation, the criminal prosecution on another two criminal files, in which the suspended Prosecutor General is concerned and which regard the abuse of office committed as head of the Moldovan parliament’s commission for national security, defence and public order, as well as on his illicit enrichment.
