Funerals of first Moldovan parliament speaker held today

Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ – The President of the First Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Mosanu, has been on the last road today.
On the evening of 09 December 2017, a memorial service took place at the Cathedral of Saint Teodora de la Sihla, and in the morning of 10 December 2017 the coffin with the inanimate body of the Speaker of the first Legislature was deposited at the Palace of the Republic, where a took place funeral ceremony. Here several hundred persons, including Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, Deputy Speakers of Parliament, Iurie Leanca and Vladimir Vitiuc, MPs, ministers, diplomats, former and current state dignitaries, as well as persons of culture and academics came to take farewell to the Speaker of the first Parliament.
"Alexandru Mosanu is one of the key founders of the Republic of Moldova. Today, we have become poorer after the loss of a great intellectual and equally a state man who loved the Republic of Moldova. Alexandru Mosanu was and will remain a trademark personality in our country’s history, a lover and promoter of national values ​​and traditions," said Iurie Leanca.
At his turn, the first president of the Republic of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, specified that Alexandru Mosanu was a renowned scholar and an illustrious politician. "He was one of the leaders of the revival and national liberation movement. Today, we lead on last road a personality and a great patriot who dedicated his whole life and activity to the Republic of Moldova," said Snegur.
Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc said that today, along with other former students, she came to say goodbye to the great professor. "He always brought us the truth and many lessons about justice. The life model of my beloved teacher, Alexandru Mosanu, has served as an example to me. I respect him, in particular, for the modesty, correctness and lavishness he had throughout his life," said Babuc.
After the funeral ceremony at the Palace of the Republic, the funeral corps went to the monument of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, where a rally took place.
The first Parliament Speaker of Moldova, Alexandru Mosanu, died on the evening of 07 December 2017, at the age of 85 years. Alexandru Mosanu was born on 19 July 1932 in Braniste village, Balti district, at present Rascani district. He was MP in the Parliament of Moldova in 1990 – 1998 and served as Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova in September 1990 – February 1993.
Alexandru Mosanu was buried at the central cemetery on street Armeneasca.
