Two former Moldovan Interior Ministry chiefs, Dorin Damir sentenced to three years in prison in fictitious employments case

The former head of the General Police Inspectorate, the ex-head of Directorate No. 5 of the National Investigation Inspectorate, and the president of the Fighting and Entertainment Association of Moldova (FEA), Dorin Damir, today were sentenced to three years in prison each in the case concerning fictitious employment at the Interior Ministry (MAI).

The judges delivered the decision in the absence of the three defendants.

The court found that the two former Interior Ministry chiefs had committed abuses and carried out fictitious hirings. Dorin Damir worked at the former Directorate No. 5 of the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI) without actually reporting for duty, yet received a salary for an alleged “undercover mission.”

Throughout the trial, the three defendants pleaded not guilty.

The sentence is not final and can be appealed in accordance with legal procedures.

Dorin Damir, who is the godson of former Democratic Party leader, Vlad Plahotniuc, is also under investigation in other criminal cases involving money laundering, tax evasion and extortion.
