U.S. Embassy message on Holocaust Remembrance Day: We reaffirm commitment to truth and human dignity

The Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova commemorates the more than six million Jews killed during the Holocaust. The diplomatic mission accredited to Chișinău sent a message reaffirming its commitment to truth and respect for human dignity.

“Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, together with the Republic of Moldova, we honor the memory of the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution. We remember. We honor. We reaffirm our commitment to truth and human dignity,” the Embassy’s press release reads.

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu also issued a message commemorating the victims of the Holocaust, emphasizing that six million Jews, along with Roma, people with disabilities, and other persecuted individuals, were killed solely because they were considered different.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day will be marked in the Republic of Moldova by a rally at the Victims of Fascism Memorial and a series of events dedicated to remembrance, education, and assuming responsibility.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed every year on January 27, in accordance with the UN resolution adopted on November 1, 2005, by the United Nations. On January 27, 1945, Allied forces liberated the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland.
