Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - Academician, literary critic and historian, PhD in philology, laureate of the State Prize, holder of the Order of the Republic Haralambie Corbu died at the age of 91 on 10 May.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the president of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM), Ion Tighineanu, said that scientist Haralambie Corbu was author of more than 650 scientific and popularization works, of which 28 personal books, co-author and scientific editor of about 80 collective works (literary stories, collections, textbooks, etc.)
”Academician Haralambie Corbu participated with reports and scientific papers in over 200 national and international scientific conferences and symposia, trained 18 PhD in philology. He is laureate of Moldova’s State Prize in the science and technology sector (1985); Corbu was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1978), Merited Man title (1996), Order of the Republic (1996), Mihai Eminescu Medal (1999), Dimitrie Cantemir Medal (2000), The Scientist of the Year Diploma and Prize in the field of human sciences (2005), the Gratitude Diploma of ASM (2016),’’ academician Ion Tighineanu said.
Haralambie Corbu was born in the Dubasarii Vechi village, central Criuleni district, on 15 February 1930. He studied at the Industrial Lyceum from Chisinau (1942-1944), the Pedagogical School from Calarasi (1944-47) and the Ion Creanga Pedagogical Institution of Chisinau (1947-1951). Afterwards, he continued education at the M. Gorki Literature Institute from Moscow (1954-1957). He maintained the thesis of PhD in philology in 1975.
As of 1957, Corbu dedicated himself to the scientific research at the ASM Institute of Language and Literature. He worked as director this Institute in 1984-87, academician coordinator of the section of social and human sciences (1978-1991, 1995-2000), ASM deputy president (1988-1995).
Academician Haralambie Corbu will be buried at the Central Orthodox Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street from Chisinau on 13 May.
