Czech President: Czech Republic strongly supports Moldova's EU integration process

The Czech Republic fully supports Moldova's efforts for European integration and eagerly anticipates Moldova and Ukraine becoming part of the great EU family. Czech President Petr Pavel made the statement at a joint conference with President Maia Sandu.

Maia Sandu thanked her Czech counterpart for all support in Moldova's European path. She listed several projects directly funded by the Czech Republic.

"Moldova and the Czech Republic are friendly countries, united by common values and the desire to offer citizens more security and opportunities. Together, we are building a strong partnership. With the support of the Czech Republic, we are modernizing water treatment systems in Briceni, providing home care for the elderly, supporting farmers and investing in education for children with autism. Our partnership contributes to Moldova's safety. We are working together to strengthen borders and emergency response capabilities. Our partnership with the Czech Republic means a resilient Moldova," said the president.

The head of state said that the European Union is primarily a peace project, which is extremely important for our country.

"A Moldova in the European Union means a safer Moldova in a more stable and stronger Europe," Maia Sandu concluded.

The Czech president noted that although the European Union is not an ideal place, the decision for the Czech Republic to become a member of the EU and NATO was the best decision that could have been made. This choice helped the Czech Republic achieve extraordinary economic progress, raise living standards, and increase security.

"For this reason, I reaffirm the Czech Republic's support for Moldova in joining the EU. I have come to the Republic of Moldova as a friend, and I can assure you that we share the same experience in joining the EU, an experience we can share with you," Pavel said.

He also spoke about the regional situation.

"The rules established after the World War II are under attack by Russia. However, one thing is clear: we look forward to seeing the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine alongside us in the EU. What we see now in Ukraine is an effort by Russia to reimpose a world where the strong are always right. We cannot accept this! Small countries have a say," Pavel concluded.

Czech President Petr Pavel is paying first official visit to the Republic of Moldova today.
