Moldova to have new ambassadors to Kazakhstan, Ireland

Moldova will appoint new ambassadors to Kazakhstan and Ireland. The parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration approved positive advisory opinions for the proposed candidates for the positions of the country's ambassadors, at a today's meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi said that the appointment of the new ambassadors showed Moldova's commitment to strengthen its international presence by promoting national interests and enhancing bilateral relations.

“The selected ambassadors are professionals with extensive experience, capable of representing Moldova with dignity and efficiency in their countries of residence and contribute to deepening our country's diplomatic and economic relations,” stressed Mihai Popsoi.

Thus, Stefan Gorda was appointed as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Moldova to Kazakhstan, and Jana Costachi – as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Moldova to Ireland.

Stefan Gorda is a career diplomat with the rank of Ambassador, having a long-standing experience in international relations. He has held leadership positions at  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and represented Moldova as ambassador in the Czech Republic, to the Holy See, as well as in Bulgaria, Albania and North Macedonia.

In the early years of Moldova's independence, he held important positions in public administration, serving as an advisor to the Prime Minister and State Advisor to the President of the Republic. During 2020-2022, he was the director of the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Coordinator for Francophonie, playing an essential role in the training of diplomats and promoting international cooperation.

Presently, Stefan Gorda serves as Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of Moldova in Ukraine, managing bilateral relations in a complex geopolitical context. Throughout his career, he has contributed to strengthening external partnerships and developing economic diplomacy. He was awarded the Madara Horseman” Order by the President of Bulgaria and is the author of publications in the field of international relations and modern history.

Jana Costachi has over 15 years of experience in public administration and international organizations, specializing in public policy development and implementation. Her areas of expertise include human rights, public order and security, managing migration flows, negotiating bilateral agreements and combating forced labor.

She has held leadership positions in the central public administration, including as State Secretary at the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. Besides, she worked as international expert for such organizations as the International Labor Organization, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development and the World Bank.

During her career, Jana Costachi contributed to the development of national strategies in migration, asylum and foreigners’ integration, as well as strengthening security and social protection policies.

The two appointed ambassadors will be able to start their activities after completing all legal procedures, including appointment by government decision and presidential decree.
