Moldovan servicemen fulfil missions in Kosovo
Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - The second contingent of the National Army detached in KFOR (NATO Multinational Force to Kosovo), has managed to fulfil all missions specific to the operation theatre after a five-month mandate.
The commander of the Moldovan platoon, lieutenant-colonel Boris Macovei said the peacekeepers patrolled, covering by up to 400 km daily, in the western region of Kosovo. Macovei specified that the National Army’s officers and sub-officers also made combined patrolling operations (by car and on foot), observation missions, which involved the organisation of the observation post and ensured security of the Camp Vilaggio Italia base from Pech settlement, where the contingents of the countries members of the Multi-National Forces West are deployed.
At the same time, Macovei highlighted the work of the Moldovan sappers, who continue to search the region in order to find and, subsequently, destroy the explosive materials left in the wake of the armed conflict.
Macovei specified that, on the concerned period, the Moldovan servicemen participated in mountaineering exercises, trained by Italian colleagues from the alpine climbing regiment to fulfill patrolling missions in the mountainous regions.
The second National Army contingent, made up of 40 servicemen, of whom 32 infantrymen, seven sappers and one general staff officer, was detached to Kosovo in September 2014.
