As of today, fishing ban period set up in Moldova
Starting from 1 April until June 2025, a fishing ban period is set up in the natural fishery aquatic objectives in the Republic of Moldova. The measure, valid for 75 days, aims to protect aquatic resources and maintain ecological balance.
According to the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, during the prohibition, fishing in natural fishery aquatic objectives is strictly prohibited; being near these waters with fishing gear; and the use of watercraft by individuals.
"To ensure compliance with these regulations, environmental inspectors will boost control raids, checking both rivers and lakes, as well as nearby areas. Individuals who violate the rules risk sanctions according to current legal provisions. We appeal to all citizens to comply with the prohibition rules," it says.
Each year, the Environment Agency establishes, by order, upon the proposal of scientific institutions and the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, periods of prohibition for sport, amateur, and recreational fishing of all species of fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and other live aquatic creatures, and also informs about protected fishery zones. According to the order of 27 March 2025, the general prohibition period for 2025 was set in 1 April - 30 June.
"Fishing is prohibited for 68 consecutive days, from 1 April to 7 June 2025 inclusively, from the intersection of the Prut River with the northern border of Moldova with Ukraine to the village of Tețcani, in Costești-Stânca reservoir and the Prut River on the sector from the dam of Costești-Stânca hydrotechnical node to the village of Giurgiulești. The control of compliance with the aforementioned order's provisions falls under the responsibility of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, and violations of this order's provisions lead to accountability in accordance with current legislation.
Illegal fishing endangers the balance of the aquatic ecosystem, affecting natural resources and biodiversity. Offenders risk financial penalties, according to Article 114 (2) of the Contravention Code – Violation of the rules for the protection of fishery resources and fishing rules. The amount of the fines depends on the severity of the violation – from 300 lei to 25,000 lei.
