Over 2,500 explosive devices neutralized by sappers in 2020
Chisinau, 5 January /MOLDPRES/- Over 2,500 explosive devices were detected and neutralized by National Army sappers in 2020.
According to the senior officer of the Engineering Service, Ivan Cornegruţa, the largest demining mission was carried out in April- June in Bălțați village, Ialoveni district. As a result of researching 46 hectares of forest near the town, the sappers found more than 1,260 explosives of various calibers, including artillery shells, grenade launchers, hand grenades and anti-tank mines. All ammunition was from the World War II and were safely destroyed.
Plop Ştiubei village, Causeni district was in 2020 the locality with the highest number of demining. In the area, they have found and liquidated 306 munitions, including grenade launchers, hand grenades, anti-tank mines and artillery shells.
At the same time, last year, among the ammunition with the highest explosive charge were four aviation bombs of 50 kg and, respectively, 100 kg, found in Anenii Noi and Ştefan Vodă districts.
The data of the Ministry of Defense show that in 2020, the National Army sappers carried out 282 demining missions in the localities from Ştefan Vodă, Ialoveni, Causeni, Cimişlia, Floresti, Ungheni, Anenii Noi, Balti and Chisinau.
