National Calendar 2025, dedicated to Year of Eminescu, launched in Moldovan capital

The series of events marking the Year of Mihai Eminescu was augmented today by the launch of the National Calendar 2025, under the auspices of the National Library of Moldova. This year's edition has an encyclopedic character, including a series of notable names from the fields of science, culture, and art, representative personalities from our country, the entire Romanian space, as well as from universal culture and civilization.

According to Elena Pintilei, director of the National Library and member of the editorial board of the "National Calendar," the 2025 edition has a special connotation, as it is framed within the grand jubilee event of Mihai Eminescu.

"The work is dedicated to the Year of Mihai Eminescu, with the cover design and interior reflecting the event. The included articles are accompanied by a selective bibliography, and the main criterion for selecting names is value," stated the BNRM head.

According to the director of the National Library, this cultural reference publication is requested by major state institutions, diplomatic missions in the Moldova and abroad, the media, cultural and educational institutions, researchers, writers, and others.

In its 544 pages, the work includes information about 660 memorable dates, distributed monthly, and presents details on approximately 600 national and international commemorative, professional events and holidays to be marked in 2025.

Additionally, the calendar includes dates about the conquest of the Chilia Fortress (560 years) by Stephen the Great and Holy; the Battle of Lipnic (555 years); the Battle of the High Bridge (550 years); the establishment of the "Archers of Stephen" organization (80 years); the end of World War II (80 years); the start of the general strike of students, high schoolers, and teachers in Chișinău (30 years), etc.

"It is not the volume but the quality that matters, as scientific materials underpin it, which will serve as support for many scholarly studies. We will meet throughout the year at events reflected in this calendar, which is a mirror of our national and cultural identity. We live in troubled times, but guided by the great Eminescu and our culture, we will succeed," noted President of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, Ion Tighineanu, at the event.
