Moldovan deputy foreign minister attends UN Forum on sustainable development

Chisinau, 18 July /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Lilian Darii, has attended the 2017 UN High-level Policy Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, held in New York, on 17 – 18 July 2017, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The 2017 HLPF aimed at strengthening the means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 through the annual assessment of the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported that the forum has aimed to contribute to the plenary implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 through the annual assessment of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The statement of the head of the Moldovan delegation during the general debate focused on the actions taken to adapt the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 to the national context of the Republic of Moldova. Special emphasis was put on the joint actions of development authorities and partners to mobilize resources needed to fully implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

On the margins of the HLPF, Deputy Minister Darii held a meeting with the Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (UNFPA) Alana Armitage. The interlocutors discussed the priorities of the new Country Program for the years 2018 – 2020 of the UNFPA, in particular the necessary actions to mitigate the consequences of the negative phenomena affecting the population of the Republic of Moldova.

Deputy Minister Darii also had a meeting with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Regional Director Cihan Sultanoglu. They discussed aspects related to the increasing of synergy with the UNDP Country Team in order to more actively identify technical assistance projects to support national efforts in priority areas such as good governance, justice sector reform, respect for human rights, equal opportunities for women, sustainable and inclusive growth.
