Moldovan PM, European Commission official discuss accelerating growth plan projects

Accelerating the implementation of the Growth Plan for Moldova and advancing the 20 priority projects for which the country is requesting European funding have been discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood at the European Commission, during a phone call.

The officials welcomed Moldova’s progress in implementing the reforms agreed with the European Commission and discussed the next stages of implementation. The PM stressed that the government’s priority is to accelerate the projects and turn European investments into concrete results for citizens – better roads, secure energy, modern agriculture, upgraded schools and hospitals and more efficient public services.

“We are making good progress with the reforms. Now we need to accelerate the projects and turn the opportunities provided by the Growth Plan into investments that develop the economy and improve people’s lives as quickly as possible,” Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said.

The discussion also focused on Moldova’s preparations for the cold season, with an emphasis on energy security and ensuring continuity of supply. The prime minister also presented developments concerning the preparation of the framework required to declare a state of emergency, as well as the measures taken by the authorities to strengthen the country’s resilience on the coming period.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Gert Jan Koopman also discussed enhancing the efficiency of public institutions and improving the services provided to citizens.

The Growth Plan is the most significant financial support package offered by the European Union to Moldova, worth 1.9 billion euros.
