Former Moldovan PM comments on decision of his release from prison
Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The former prime minister, Vlad Filat, at a today’s news conference, commented on the decision on his release from prison, which he describes as perfectly legal. Filat said that, so far, he had not recognized his guilt, noting that no conditions were imposed for him and he turned down the speculations appeared on this subject.
According to Filat, the procedure of conditional release was initiated back in last April and given the last touches as late as on 3 December, when the court decided his conditional release. The former Moldovan PM also said that this decision on release can be appealed on a 15-day term, specifying that the justice of Moldova would take a new integrity test on this period. “I do not recognize my guilt even so far, but I complied, serving my punishment,” Filat said.
„More falsehoods were set forth in the public space, alleging that this perfectly legal procedure, which regards the conditional release, was made in certain conditions of obscurity. This is a speculation. This trial, which was completed with the conclusion from yesterday, is a political one and has a string of procedural actions,” Filat noted.
Vlad Filat also said that, for the moment, he did not want to return to politics; yet, he does not exclude that he will participate in a meeting of the political council of the Moldovan Liberal Democratic Party, due on 8 December.
The former prime minister, Vlad Filat, on 27 June 2016 was sentenced by the Chisinau Court to nine years of imprisonment for influence peddling and passive corruption, following a denunciation by Ilan Shor. Filat was conditionally released on 3 December, as a result of a ruling issued by a court from the Moldovan capital.
