OSCE observers say presidential elections held fairly, democratically
Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The OSCE Mission for the observation of the presidential elections in Moldova have found out that the runoff election also observed the democratic principles and was held without major infringements.
At a news conference, the head of the mission, Corien Juncker, said that, ‘’in general, the electoral process was carried out with the observance of the democratic principles, without major infringements.’’
According to the official, in the end of the campaign, a transformation of the electoral political discourse ’’from collegial into acid’’ was noticed. ‘’The political rhetoric turned from a collegial one into one of acid political statements and the information media, through the biased way of presenting information, contributed to the society’s polarizing,’’ Juncker said.
At the same time, the official noted that an orderly transfer of power would help the Moldovan state cope with the challenges of democracy. ‘’An orderly transfer of power will help the Moldovan state prove to everybody that it can cope with the challenges to the democracy,’’ Corien Juncker stressed.
The head of the OSCE mission of observers praised the Central Electoral Commission for the information unveiled online. Yet, she said that clearer rules of financial supervision of the electoral campaign should have been in the runoff election.
The final report of the OSCE Mission of observing the presidential elections in Moldova will be published in two months.
