Prime Minister at Davos Economic Forum: Moldova has chosen to leave grey area of geography and to be part of European effort to defend democracy

The Republic of Moldova has chosen to leave the grey area of geography and to be part of the European effort to defend democracy and the values of freedom and peace. The message was delivered today by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu at the Davos Economic Forum.

The official emphasized that this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos goes beyond the economic dimension of the discussions and highlights the importance of dialogue and common solutions.

“The World Economic Forum in Davos this year goes beyond the economic dimension of the discussions; it is about how we manage to enhance dialogue and cooperation, about how important it is to find joint solutions in order to build stability and prosperity together,” the official said.

At the same time, Alexandru Munteanu said “security challenges, climate challenges, energy, economic and geopolitical pressures can be resolved through collaboration, not competition, through a collective commitment to solving the problems that affect all humanity.”

An important topic of discussion was the consequences of Russia’s war in Ukraine and the fight against hostile narratives.

“We discussed the consequences of Russia’s inhuman war in Ukraine, our day-to-day fight against hostile narratives that divide and fuel people’s fears. Moldova has chosen to leave the grey area of geography and to be part of the European effort to defend democracy and the values of freedom and peace,” the Prime Minister noted.

At the same time, Alexandru Munteanu stressed that Moldova is an example showing that European solidarity and European values can become a protective shield against destabilizing external interference.

“We want to continue to be part of and to contribute to the construction of a strong Europe that ensures sustainable growth for its citizens and respect for human rights,” Munteanu concluded.

Munteanu and Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization are taking part from 19–22 January 2026 in the 56th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
