
Moldovan foreign minister meets Latvian counterpart
Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- Today, the head of Moldovan diplomacy, Nicu Popescu, hosted Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, who was visiting the Republic of Moldova at the invitation of his Moldovan counterpart. The officials addressed the main topics of interest on the Moldovan-Latvian cooperation agenda and the opportunities to deepen the bilateral dialogue.
According to MAEIE press service, the officials welcomed the positive dynamics of the dialogue between the two states and agreed on concrete actions to be taken in the near future, including the organization of high-level reciprocal visits in the context of the celebration in 2022 of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
They also referred to the need to update bilateral agreements, as well as to sign new treaties in areas of common interest, such as the conversion of driving licenses, digitization, social protection, security cooperation with the European Union and environmental protection. Ways to boost sectoral interaction and regional development, as well as to foster economic cooperation, were also discussed, including the organization of the next meeting of the Moldovan-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation and a Business Forum.
Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu thanked the Latvian Government for constant political support and development assistance to our country in achieving structural reforms and priority objectives throughout the European Republic of Moldova. Gratitude was expressed for the recent donation of the 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which comes to reconfirm the solidarity and friendly relations between the two states.
For his part, Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that Latvia continues to be an active supporter of Moldova's European integration and stressed his country's readiness to continue to provide the necessary support and expertise in the reform process for the implementation of the Association Agreement.
