
Regulation on waste management of end-of-life vehicles approved
Chisinau, February 28 /MOLDPRES/- The components of end-of-life vehicles will be collected, sorted and recycled, so that the environment is affected as little as possible. The document approved today by the government at the initiative of the Ministry of Environment creates a favorable legal framework for the reuse of metals, the use of old car components and the stimulation of the circular economy, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
Environment Agency data show that since 2014, there has been a continuous increase in the share of cars older than 10 years. Thus, in 2014, of the total number of cars - 68.5% were over 10 years old, and in 2018 their share increased to 79.7%.
The activities of treatment, recovery and recycling of end-of-life vehicles will take place in several stages, and the costs will be borne by manufacturers and importers:
starting from 1 January 2025, economic agents must ensure the reuse and recovery of 85% of the average mass for all end-of-life vehicles,
starting from January 1, 2028, economic agents must ensure reuse and recovery in proportion to 95%."These measures will reduce the negative effects on the environment, will encourage the sorting of waste and will make economic agents in the field responsible", Minister of Environment Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov said.
