Foreign affairs ministers of Moldova, Russia sign joint declaration
Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu and Foreign Affairs Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov signed a joint declaration in Moscow today, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Moldova-Russia basic agreement.
At a joint news conference, the Moldovan diplomacy head said that the officials today had discussed the bilateral relations on all segments of cooperation. Popescu noted that he had invited Sergey Lavrov to pay a visit to Moldova.
Nicu Popescu said that a priority in Moldova’s foreign policy remained the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Transnistrian region. He specified that the issues on the evacuation and liquidation of the Russian ammunitions from Cobasna must be re-brought for discussion.
For his part, Serghei Lavrov noted that the today’s dialogue was constructive. He reiterated the need to resume the 5+2 format negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, stressing that Russia was speaking out for continuing the peacekeeping mission in the region.
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu pays a visit to Moscow on 16-17 November. He has planned negotiations with more high-ranking Russian officials.
