EU Border Assistance Mission to further provide partners with assistance to make progress in implementing border control
Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ – The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) will continue to assist partners in implementation of further advance joint border control (CCF). The statement has been made by EU Ambassador to Moldova, Peter Michalko, at the 32nd meeting of the Mission's Consultative Council, which has taken place in Odessa, Ukraine on Thursday, 27 June.
The EU Ambassador noted that EUBAM has made progress in all three areas of its mandate by providing technical support in the Transnistrian settlement process, implementing the concept of integrated border management and supporting law enforcement agencies in the fight against cross – border crime.
The meeting welcomed the efforts of partner services and EUBAM to open the recently built Palanca – Mayaki – Udobne crossing point. The border agencies and customs services from Moldova and Ukraine have been encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and make full use of this model to ensure fluidity and security of cross – border traffic.
the head of the Cooperation Department of EU Delegation to Ukraine, Stefan Schleuning, said the Palanca – Mayaki – Udobne border crossing point would ensure the flow and security of cross – border traffic.
The head of EUBAM, Slawomir Pichor, concluded that there were appreciated the important developments made with the support of the Mission at both national and international levels. "Opening of the first border crossing point at the Moldovan – Ukrainian border, built specifically for joint control, new initiatives in the field of confidence building measures, as well as establishment of an inter – institutional regional analytical group for evaluation of risks and threats in Odessa region gives us the confidence that we shall continue this complex activity together," said head of mission.
The Consultative Council will meet again in November 2019 in Chisinau municipality.
