Moldovan deputy premier, Polish ambassador discuss bilateral ties, Transnistrian settlement

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today received Ambassador of Poland to Moldova Artur Michalski, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

The officials reviewed the stage of the Moldovan-Polish relations, ascertaining with satisfaction the high level of the dialogue between Moldova and Poland. The sides expressed their common wish to continue the positive dynamic of the bilateral contacts, both at the political and technical levels. The deputy prime minister thanked the Polish government for the assistance provided to Moldova in the process of democratization, social and economic development and rapprochement with the European Union.   

As for the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities to settle the Transnistrian problem, the deputy prime minister for reintegration pointed out the foremost short- and medium-term actions by the cabinet. Balan highlighted the commitment to back the residents from the left bank of Dniester, by extending the single spaces over the entire territory of Moldova and implementing projects on social and economic development of the Transnistrian region.

Referring to the negotiating process and carrying out of the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue, the deputy prime minister specified the main issues on the sides’ working agenda, which are to be settled first and foremost. And this on grounds that these problems show the precarious situation in terms of observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Transnistrian region, pressures to which the Latin-scripts schools of the region are subjected to, present obstacles to the free movement, etc.  

Gheorghe Balan stressed the importance to unconditionally resume the five-plus-two negotiations, ensure an efficient and transparent working process, by constructive involvement of all the relevant international partners. At the same time, Balan emphasized the efforts by the special representatives of the German OSCE chairmanship, aimed at giving an impetus to the Transnistrian settlement process.  

The officials exchanged opinions on the matters tackled.

Ambassador Artur Michalski thanked the deputy prime minister for dialogue and voiced confidence that the traditional Moldovan-Polish relations would continue developing for the benefit of both nations.
