Moldovan PM speaks on letter invoked by Moscow authorities: Kremlin says not going to deliver natural gas

In a letter invoked by the Moscow authorities, the Moldovan government is informed that there is not any Russian company which is to deliver natural gas to the left bank of Dniester. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today made statements to this effect, after Moldova’s Ambassador to Russia Lilian Darii had been summoned at Russia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), in order to be handed over a protest note.

According to the Russian MAE, Moscow expressed discontent with the publication by the Moldovan side of a diplomatic note sent in the context of the discussions on gas deliveries.

In the context, PM Dorin Recean said that it was about a letter, through which the Embassy of Russia in Chisinau informs the government of Moldova that there was no any Russian company which was to deliver natural gas to the left bank of Dniester.

„In essence, the Kremlin said that it was not going to deliver natural gas. The Russian side should observe its commitments. The first commitment is to respect the citizens of Moldova, to observe the independence and territorial sovereignty and take its troops home,’’ Dorin Recean said.

Since 1 January 2025, the residents of the Transnistrian region have been living in cold and darkness, after Gazprom ceased the deliveries of natural gas, despite an existing contract.
